Mujahid Asari Dokubo, former Niger Delta freedom fighter, has warned the planners of the August 1 nationwide protest against hardship to stay away from the South-South region.
According to Asari Dokubo, the planned protest agenda does not address the problems of the Niger Delta people. He challenged the protesters to come to the oil and gas region, they will be resisted and accused them of being anarchists who only want the region’s resources.
The former leader of the now defunct Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force also alleged that those who lost the election are behind the protest to remove the present government.
Speaking at the Niger Delta Sensitisation Conference for Ethnic Nationalities, Youths and Women, themed “Come let us build together” in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Tuesday, Asari-Dokubo said:
“Those of us who are committed to the interest of the Niger Delta will not participate in any protest. It’s clear.
“If others have the right to protest, I also have the right to resist. Where their right ends, mine begins.”
He said the same people who protested against former President Goodluck Jonathan, a Niger Deltan, are now targeting another Southerner, President Bola Tinubu and advised the people not to be deceived by them.
Asari-Dokubo said: “I am against protests. When Jonathan, our brother, was in power, they protested. Now, with another Southerner in office, they want to protest again. That’s the reality.
“Allowing ourselves to be used means others will keep riding over us.
“Our needs are not part of their demands. They only want our resources. If they bring their protest near me, they will be resisted.”
He said: “Those who protested and went to Oyigbo (Rivers State) faced consequences. The government and security agencies know I dealt with them.
“Don’t be deceived by sweet words. What have these protesters done to their communities?
“The lack of hospitals in Buguma, Abonema and all of Kalabari land is not new. It didn’t start today. I won’t expect my friend, President Tinubu to fix it in a year.
“These protesters are anarchists. If you lose an election, wait for the next one. It’s just four years. Sell your ideas to the people next time.”
“President Bola Tinubu won the election against all odds. He faced many challenges and won. Wait your turn.
“Look at what happened in Imo State where police officers were killed. That’s the kind of anarchy they want to bring. We must resist it.
“If you bring it here, I am not President Tinubu, the Chief of Army Staff or the Inspector General of Police but you will be resisted.
“Keep your protest away from here. It’s not our business. If you protest where I am, I will see you as a threat and will act accordingly.”
“It’s not about Tinubu being my friend. I am standing for myself. We cannpt be part of this, or even conceive this protest. Those who have lost election should prepare for 2027.”
