In a new audio, popular crossdresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye aka Bobrisky claimed he paid N5 million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to get a Federal Government pardon for money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The audio was shared by social media influencer Martins Otse aka VeryDarkMan on Monday, October 7, 2024.
In the audio, Bobrisky said the SAN asked for N10 million for the pardon but he couldn’t raise the full amount because his accounts were frozen by EFCC.
Bobrisky said his godfather helped out and contributed N5M to the payment. He didn’t ask for more because his godfather had already gotten him a fully furnished apartment close to the prison where he was to serve his sentence.
He cleared the air on his incarceration, saying he’s not in prison but in an apartment close by because of his godfather’s intervention.
“Truth be told, I’m not in prison, I’m around there. My godfather made sure I didn’t end up in prison. He arranged for me to stay in an apartment close by. The public may think I’m in prison but my godfather ensured that wouldn’t happen,” Bobrisky said in the audio.
He also said the Deputy Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service was involved in the arrangement and made sure he was not put in a male facility where he would be harassed.
“They were worried about putting me in a male facility because of harassment, so they made other arrangements as long as I remained quiet and didn’t post anything,” he said.
Bobrisky said the SAN had already submitted the pardon request. “I’m supposed to finish my sentence by July but if we get the amnesty I could be released by the first week of next month,” he added.
He said the full N10M couldn’t be paid because his account was frozen but the N5M was already sent.
This comes after Bobrisky earlier claimed EFCC officials demanded and collected N15M to drop the charges against him. He also claimed human rights lawyer Femi Falana was involved in seeking a presidential pardon for N10M.
The story is generating a lot of buzz with many asking questions about the ethics of such behind the scene deal while others are following Bobrisky’s case closely.
