Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has emerged the winner in the All Progressives Congress’ gubernatorial primary, the Punch Newspaper reported.
The election was conducted on Saturday across the state’s 18 local government areas with Governor Aiyedatiwa polling 48,460 votes.
Usman Ododo, Kogi State Governor and chairman of the Primary Election Committee announced this on Sunday.
The primaries held at all 203 wards in the local government areas of the state were not without controversial comments from several aspirants. There were sixteen governorship hopefuls who are party members among whom are Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, as well as Wale Akinterinwa and several others.
A nine-man committee chaired by Ododo was set up by the national leadership of the party to oversee the primaries with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege serving as secretary.
Ododo, on getting to Akure on Saturday, handled complaints at a hotel in the city’s Ijapo area and assured them that voting materials had already been sent to Ondo South and North senatorial districts but that of Central was yet to be dispatched as at 10:30am.
But Gbenga Edema, an aspirant opposed this stand by claiming that no distribution had taken place. He called for deferment and a free poll. Also, Sola Arowosafe from Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organization called for primary election’s cancellation citing the lack of fairness from the committee that conducted the election.
