Enoch Ganogbe has lived with the pain of not knowing where his daughter Abigail Ganogbe and granddaughter Yenukunme Ajovi are for ten years.
According to him, the ladies went missing in January 2015 and left behind many questions and a father in pain and worry.
Enoch, who is a bricklayer, told the Punch on Sunday that he has been emotionally and physically affected since they went missing.
He said the uncertainty has taken a toll on his health and he’s battling hypertension.
He is also worried about his well being and fears the stress might kill him.
“I think about it all the time. I just pray this situation doesn’t kill me,” he said.
Enoch noted Abigail used to be a pillar of strength to him, and she helped him in many ways and never left him alone in his struggles.
Enoch spoke about her with fondness, describing her as a kind person who always looked out for him. The absence has left a gap he can’t fill.
“She was always there for me, helping out in any way she could. Since she went missing I haven’t felt joy or peace. I have searched everywhere and spoken to everyone I can but there’s been no sign of her. Now I can only put my trust in God and hope I will find her,” he said.
Enoch said before she went missing Abigail had a misunderstanding with her husband but according to him the issue was resolved before she went missing.
He said the matter was reported to the police but there’s been no progress in the investigation.
Her husband Noah Ajovi called it a great loss.
Ajovi has been with Abigail since 2007 and they got married in 2011.
He said losing his wife and daughter without a trace has broken him.
“I spent 10 years of my life with her and she took our only child with her. I married her legally, it wasn’t a casual relationship. Now all I want is my daughter. If I see her again at least I’ll know something from those 10 years remains,” Noah said.
He said Abigail left home in January 2015 when he was away.
According to him whenever they had issues she would sometimes leave but she always came back – until that day.
“I was traveling when she left. We haven’t seen or heard from her since then. I reported the matter to the police but till now we don’t know if they were kidnapped or what happened,” he added.
Attempts to get the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin for an update on the case failed.
Each day is a torture for him. Waiting and hoping with no end in sight is exhausting him physically and emotionally.
