England international Cole Palmer has signed a contract extension that could keep him with Chelsea for another two years until 2033.
According to The Athletic, Palmer’s new deal is a reward for an amazing first season at Stamford Bridge where he scored 25 goals and 15 assists in 45 games across all competitions.
Chelsea signed Palmer from Manchester City last summer for £40m with an extra £2.5m in add ons. He signed a 7-year deal with an option to extend for an extra year.
Prior to joining the Blues, Palmer had only made 19 Premier League appearances for City but had an amazing season in west London. He was called up to the England squad for the European Championship.
He was an unused sub for the first two games, then played the next five and helped his team to the final. He scored the equaliser in the 2-1 defeat to Spain.
Palmer’s good form at Euro 2024 meant he returned to Chelsea last week after his holidays. He came on as a second half sub in Sunday’s 1-1 friendly against Inter Milan at Stamford Bridge, his first pre season game.
Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea will kick-start the Premier League season at home to EPL champions City on Sunday. The club then have a Conference League play off against Servette or Braga a few days later.
Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer. They’ve signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa, Marc Guiu from Barcelona, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City, Renato Veiga from Basel, Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United and Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors.
And a €40m deal for Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion but that’s stuck due to contract issues.
