Senator Dino Melaye has been suspended from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over anti-party activities claim.
According to the Punch on Friday, the suspension was pronounced by the executive committee of Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 after they looked into the report of the disciplinary committee that investigated Melaye’s case.
The suspension resolution reads: “Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has embarrassed and brought shame to the party, his membership is no longer viable. Therefore the Ward party exco hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party, with immediate effect.”
This is in line with Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution which gives the ward exco the power to discipline members for misconduct.
Melaye’s recent actions were deemed to be harmful to the party’s unity and interest hence his suspension.
The resolution signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Ward Secretary Yodson Dayo stated that the ward exco met on September 12, 2024 to deliberate on the matter.
Melaye was invited to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on August 20, 2024 on allegations of misconduct as per Article 57(4) of the PDP Constitution. He failed to honour the invitation and was deemed to have shown gross disrespect andviolatethe party principles.
After deliberation the ward exco decided that Melaye’s membership of the party will damage the image of the party hence his suspension.
The ward exco urged all party members to be party disciplined and united and to work together to “build a strong and united party, capable of winning elections and serving the interests of our people.”
