The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied that its personnel raided the office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja.
Monday, SERAP said DSS men were “illegally in their office” and that they demanded to see their directors.
It asked President Bola Tinubu to stop the harassment, intimidation and violation of Nigerians’ rights.
In a statement on Tuesday, the DSS said its men were sent to SERAP office for a routine investigation.
The DSS said it has received several calls about the incident.
“The claims are false and misleading,” the statement read.
“To put the record straight, two unarmed DSS operatives were lawfully deployed to SERAP’s Abuja office for a routine investigation. But this has been twisted and portrayed as illegal and harassment of SERAP officials.”
Such official inquiries are normal and not illegal.
“We will investigate these baseless claims thoroughly. But citizens should help in national security.”
The agency told the public to disregard “false information” and remain professional, integrity and commitment.
