Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, on Tuesday, regained his freedom from his abductors after spending eleven days in captivity.
This news was made known to the public by Senator Odion Ugbesia, but what led to his release was not disclosed, whether ransom was paid or not remains unclear.
Aziegbwmi was abducted from his car while he was returning to his residence after a meeting at the Government Home in Benin. It was reported that his driver tried to climb a speed breaker before the kidnappers waylaid abs kinapoes him off Country Home Road, Benin, Edo State on March 22, 2024.
GistReporters.com had reported that a family source told journalists that the abductors of Mr. Aziegbimi contacted his family members and demanded for N500 million to be paid as ransom.
The source was quoted saying, “said, “The kidnappers have made contact with the family of Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, and they have want the sum of N500 million to be paid as ransom.
“I am not aware of what his family members are doing to source for the money or if his political party, the PDP, is doing anything to assist them.”
However, the Edo PDP chairman who returned to his residence at around 3am on Tuesday, told reporters that he was happy to reunite with his family, and also said the kidnap came with terrains, as well as saying he was not maltreated.
In his words, “I am happy to return home and I appreciate all your calls and concerns, I am happy to be reunited with my family, this kidnap comes with the terrain. I was never maltreated by the kidnappers, biu again I am happy to reunite my family.”
In a related news, on Sunday the Kaduna Government confirmed the release of abducted schoolchildren in the state, and also clarified that the children kidnapped from the school in Kurigs was 137, and not 287.
