The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will investigate claims of falsified polling unit results in the Edo governorship election.
In a statement posted on its X account on Saturday, the commission said it has received its second complaint out of the 4,519 polling units in the state.
“Allegations of figures entered into the polling unit result sheets in the ongoing Edo State Governorship election has been brought to the Commission’s attention,” the post said.
“This is the second complaint we have received across the 4,519 polling units.
“The Commission will look into the matter and act on any findings.”
Earlier today, it was reported that Obozuwa Josephine, a presiding officer, recorded more votes than the number of accredited voters at Osholo Primary School, Weppa Ward, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to Form EC 8A which Josephine filled out, 213 voters were accredited. But 406 votes were recorded as the total number of valid votes cast.
PDP has since called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the presiding officer.
Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, accused Josephine of padding votes for APC.
PDP also demanded the arrest of all APC members involved in the alleged fraud.
“The result sheet for Osholo Primary School Polling Unit, Weppa in Etsako East LGA shows that only 213 voters were accredited. Obozuwa Josephine allocated 352 votes to APC, 52 to PDP and 1 to LP, making a total of 406 votes cast,” Ologunagba said.
“This is sad that INEC presiding officer, Obozuwa Josephine could be so APC-biased to allocate 352 votes to APC, more than the 213 accredited voters in that unit.”
