Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, made an unannounced visit to King’s College, TBS, Lagos, on Thursday, drawing attention to critical issues affecting the institution.
Arriving at the main campus at precisely 7:30 a.m., Alausa moved through the school’s premises, inspecting classrooms and other facilities.
During his tour, he observed an unkempt environment and noted that the school was experiencing a power outage.
Vice Principal Shittu Y. S. provided insight into the school’s prolonged electricity crisis, explaining that power had been unavailable for the past eight months.
“The light has been away for the past eight months. The generator worked until it collapsed before the end of the term in December,” he said.
To cope with the situation, the school implemented temporary measures to ensure students could continue learning. Generators were purchased for use in classrooms and the dining hall, while an inverter was installed in the hostel to provide some level of power supply.
Despite these challenges at the main campus, the Vice Principal pointed out that the annex campus in Victoria Island, which accommodates Junior Secondary School students, had a stable electricity supply.
