Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has revealed the conditions that would make him consider taking the job full time.
Eguavoen, who will lead the team in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya after getting four points from the first two games, said he would need a solid contract and patience and ongoing support from the football federation if he were to take the job full time.
“If I take the Super Eagles job full time I would have to think twice. This is not a job you take lightly. It’s a big responsibility,” Eguavoen told Brila FM.
He listed the challenges ahead and said a long term contract with specific clauses would be necessary given that you don’t win every day. “Building a successful team takes time. You don’t win every day and patience would be key,” he said.
Looking back at his previous stints with the Super Eagles, Eguavoen expressed frustration at not having enough time to implement his plans. He pointed out that in 2006 he had six months as head coach while other times he was in charge for just a few games. “Coaches like Clemens Westerhof and Gernot Rohr were given several years. I never had more than a few months in charge,” he said.
