A depressing atmosphere has taken over Obalende, Lagos State after an horrific incident, which led to the death of Toheeb Eniasa, locally known as Tallest at the hands of an armed security agent.
The fracas started when drivers and residents struggling to get fuel from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited station in Obalende became desperate on Wednesday evening.
According to Idowu, who was present during the event; disclosed that two people suspected to be soldiers came and wanted to buy fuel without joining the queue so there was an outcry by those, who were already waiting including late Eniasa that they should wait for their turn.
They had exchange of words which degenerated into scuffle during which one of them brought out his gun and shot him and left him in pool of his own blood, before taking off immediately.
Another witness, Funmi Aina, a food vendor said she saw operatives bypassing other customers, who were on queue to buy petrol at NNPC filling station. She added that Eniasa confronted them and told them that they should either join the queue or talk politely to people. She added that the suspected DSS officer slapped him which made him to retaliate verbally until he was shot at few times then fell down lifeless.
Two security cars were set on fire by an angry mob after the shooting incident that provoked a violent reaction in the community.
This happened when people were already struggling with fuel scarcity for about a week, which has led to higher transportation charges and long queues at petrol stations.
Eniasa’s death was confirmed by Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who also said two vehicles were burnt. The shooter is unknown but ongoing investigations will reveal more about what happened before Eniasa died untimely.
