A Nigerian lady has shared her story of how her boyfriend, a lecturer at Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, got her pregnant with twins after he got a UK visa.
The lady who is not named shared her experience on X under the handle @dat_edogirl on Saturday.
In her posts, she said she met the lecturer in 2019 and they got close very fast. She thought they were building a future together.
“He told me of his plans to leave Nigeria for the UK where his elder brother lives,” she said.
At the time he was always complaining about his job as a lecturer at Auchi Polytechnic and his desire to chase better opportunities abroad.
By 2022 he told her he got his visa. She was happy for him at first but her happiness turned to sadness when she found out she was pregnant.
“When I broke the news of the pregnancy to him, he told me not to keep it, that he was leaving the country and wasn’t ready to be a father,” she said.
He asked her to abort the pregnancy, even offered to get the medication to do the job but she refused, she was afraid for her life.
“I told him I wasn’t willing to die,” she said.
She didn’t know she was carrying twins. Throughout the pregnancy, the lecturer cut off all communication.
“He never called me once and completely ignored my WhatsApp messages,” she said. Her pregnancy was complicated and she was going to the hospital frequently.
She delivered the twins through a C-section. One of the babies needed oxygen due to complications. She told the father but got no response.
“I made a video of the babies and sent it to him on WhatsApp but he didn’t respond,” she said.
The financial burden was too much and her family couldn’t afford the medical bills.
“My mother had to go around looking for money to pay the hospital bills,” she said. The total bill was 233,000.
After she was discharged, she was left to take care of the twins alone.
“I named my babies and handled everything alone. He didn’t show any interest or concern,” she said.
Attempts to reach his family were unsuccessful. His brother in Nigeria who had initially said he would talk to him blocked her after a short chat.
Things went from bad to worse when she went to Ondo State to confront his father’s family. She had to borrow money from a loan app to travel with her mum and kids.
When they got there, his brother picked them up at Adeyemi College of Education and took them to another location to avoid a scene. But when they finally spoke to his father, he denied any responsibility.
“He abused me and my family until I started crying,” she said, still wounded by his words.
She blocked the lecturer’s number and decided to share her story publicly.
“If anyone knows his family in Ondo, please help me reach them. Life is tough and I need help with feeding, clothing and sending the kids to school,” she pleaded.
She ended by saying, “I don’t want to marry Kola or have any thing to do with him. I just want my kids to be taken care of.”
