Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has deployed special forces to secure the release of Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the Afenifere Youth Leader who was kidnapped on 17 February 2025 during a trip to Abuja.
The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and Force Intelligence Department (FID) have been directed to take charge of the operation, using technical resources to bring him back home.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the police will use “all the resources and expertise” available while warning the public against sharing unverified information on social media.
“Speculation can compromise operation and put the victim in danger,” Adejobi said.
This comes as the police have recently recorded successes in kidnapping cases across the country.
For instance, on 26 February 2025, Taraba State operatives raided a criminal hideout at Wamunchi dry-season rice farms. 20 people were arrested and an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and other weapons recovered.
In Oyo State, tactical teams and local security outfits rescued three people kidnapped from Baale Tajudeen Inaolaji’s palace on 24 February.
One suspect was caught during the operation.
Kidnapping is a big problem in Nigeria with over 3,600 cases reported in 2023, according to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
The Nigeria Police Force’s operations are part of the efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
Adejobi said, “We will eradicate threats to peace and safety through proactive measures.”
Meanwhile, the public has been asked to support the authorities by sending credible information via official channels. This is in line with global policing strategies that prioritise community involvement in crime prevention.
As investigation into Ojajuni’s abduction continues, transparency and operational secrecy will be balanced to protect the victim and the operation.
