Social media influencer Victoria Rose better known to her followers as Whoa Vicky, is under fire for faking a kidnapping story while in Nigeria. The drama unfolded after a series of now deleted tweets where Vicky claimed she was being held for ransom.
One of the tweets read: “I have kidnapped Vicky. She is with me in Nigeria. I am demanding $1 million for her release.” Her followers and others were freaked out. But it was all a hoax. Vicky confessed on Instagram Live on Sunday that it was all made up.
A Joke Too Far
When asked to explain the lie Vicky said “a little fun” and claimed boredom led her to make up the story. She said on the live stream:
> “We kind of got carried away with the joke, you know. We just like to have fun and joke.”
Vicky also said she doesn’t drink or club so this is how she gets her entertainment. She added:
> “It’s probably not the best way to do it. I’d probably be better off reading the Bible or something like that.”
Using God as an Excuse
As a self proclaimed Christian Vicky cited her faith as the reason behind her weird sense of humor. She said her Christian values make her feel isolated and this is how she finds fun.
> “The Bible said laughter is good for the soul. So I’d be wanting to laugh and this is how I find that funny.”
Vicky also blamed her lack of relationships on her values:
> “There aren’t many people I can date because of my Christian beliefs. So this is kind of, like, how I have fun.”
Apology and Accountability
After getting roasted Vicky tried to apologize and take accountability. She said to her followers:
> “We all struggle in different areas. I’m not saying this was the right thing to do, but I take accountability and ownership.”
She ended her apology with:
> “I’m sorry for anyone I hurt in the process.”
Despite the apology many of Vicky’s followers are disappointed and angry and some have already unfollowed her.
One commented: “Lying about being kidnapped for this? Ok.”
Another user wrote, “I thought she was ki—you know what… unfollow.”
A third user commented: “Lying about being kidnapped is some nasty work!!”
