Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso, the Islamic singerhas been buried in Ogun state.
She died on Tuesday after a brief illness.
According to Islamic rites, her burial was done hours after she died. It started with the Salatul Janazah (funeral prayer) at her husband’s residence in Ijebu Ayepe, Ogun State. It was attended by close family, friends, fans and colleagues.
Colleague Saoty Arewa was among those present.
After the prayer, Gawat was taken to Ijebu Ayepe cemetery where she was buried.
Family, friends and colleagues are still paying tributes. Islamic singer Mistura Aderounmu wrote on Instagram: “You did your part. You came, you saw and you conquered. May Allah forgive your sins and grant you Jannah. Please, all I ask for is a prayer for my baby.”
Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso is the first daughter of popular TV presenter and cleric Rasaq Gawat. She started her Islamic music in 2015. She became popular after she released songs about her father’s disappearance titled Aye Le.
She was more popular in the Islamic music industry and was awarded several times. In 2016, she was given the ‘Best Female Islamic Musician’ award by City People Magazine and in 2017, she won the ‘Best Islamic Artiste’ at City People Music Awards.
Gawat was married to Shakiru Oyefeso, and their union was blessed with two children, a son, and a daughter.
