Iranian media, on Friday, broadcasted videos and photos displaying peace in the cities after an anonymous air strike that was directed against Isfahan Province.
An Iranian official claimed that three drones had been destroyed by anti-aircraft guns following a sonic boom near a military base in the central district.
A state-owned media afterwards showed people walking leisurely through Naqsh-e Jahan square which is an iconic part of Isfahan and along the banks of Zayandeh Rud river. They also revealed that normal vehicular movement continued to take place within the city as stated by semi official ISNA news agency. Normalcy returned at Isfahan’s aviation hub after the nationwide airport shutdowns described semiofficial Tasnim news service.
Similarly, pictures from Tabriz show continuous vehicular and pedestrian traffic in parks and streets while the city was also engaging its defense against aerial threats too at that time in Northwestern Iran.
This possibility of heightened regional tension has emerged with intelligence pointing towards an Israeli attack on Iran being imminent according to one United States official who spoke with CNN.
According to one of its military spokespersons, the Syrian state broadcaster SANA on Friday published reports about massive “non-human” damages in Southern Syria following an Israeli offensive.
“Today around 02:55 a.m., the enemy from Israel initiated rocket-based assault,” stated SANA.
SANA added that the attack reportedly aimed at Syrian anti-aircraft positions in the south that eventually led to non-human destructions.
While interacting with CNN correspondent, the Israeli defence maintained silence on the attack, which is in line with its standard policy of not addressing international media speculations.
Meanwhile, Abas Aslani, an Iranian journalist and analyst argues that the Iranians may see last Friday’s unclaimed minor attack as Israel’s attempt to diplomatically posture itself after Iran retaliated over the weekend.
“This does not necessarily mean that a regional conflict is imminent… The current signs do not indicate such an escalation,” he told CNN but also admitted that there could be more.
He further observed that, the majority of Iranians backed their government’s retaliatory air strikes on Israel last Saturday, following an alleged Israeli incursion on the Iranian consulate in Syria earlier this month.
This sentiment goes hand in hand with Iranian nationalism.
Aslani made clear that all Iranians irrespective of their political affiliations and attitude towards the government are united in terms of national security therefore endorsing Iran’s reaction to Israel.
The UN nuclear watchdog has validated the authenticity of Iranian nuclear installations after Friday’s aerial attack at Isfahan province while calling for less tension within region.
In addition, Rafael Grossi, head of IAEA reiterated again his message for maximum restraint by all involved sides stressing that military action should not target nuclear sites.
“As far as damage is concerned regarding Iran’s nuclear facilities…, we can confirm there is no such information,” says the agency that remains alert in this aspect.
