The King has just appointed Labour Party leader Keir Starmer as the new Prime Minister during a meeting at Buckingham Palace.
That monumental moment came about after Labour’s landslide victory in recent general elections, spelling an end to 14 years of Conservative rule.
The Appointment Ceremony
The Palace on Friday July 5, 2024, released a statement, and photograph of King Charles III shaking hands with Starmer .
The statement said: “The King received in audience The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration. Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
Transition of Power
Before Sir Keir Starmer took up the post, King Charles III accepted the resignation of Conservative leader Rishi Sunak, who was acting as the Prime Minister. That marked perhaps the most dramatic shift in the UK political landscape, as Labour takes up the mantle of government.
Keir Starmer’s New Role
In Keir Starmer, the country will have a new Prime Minister and a fresh beginning in the United Kingdom.
Starmer, the center-left Labour Party’s victory in this general election, was decisive and conclusive, showing sentiment for change on the part of the public and bringing in a new administration painlessly to take on the matters that are prescience in this country.
Standing as Prime Minister, Starmer has the task of taking the country through a sea-change.
His victory brought hope to many a feeling that they have finally ushered in the changes that they have been yearning for in the new policies and manifestations of old policies to see an end to most economic, social, and political problems.
