The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh, has said that the security detail for the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has been reinstalled.
He remarked this at a press briefing at the police command headquarters in Ikeja, the state capital. He said the withdrawal of her security details was for audit purposes and not for any other reason.
BriefNaija had earlier reported that all security aides, including police officers attached to Meranda, had been withdrawn.
According to the Punch, there were concerns for her safety after her security team left.
“This Speaker is now exposed, all the security aides attached to her and the House of Assembly have been recalled,” a source complained.
Ganzallo Victor, the Speaker’s spokesperson, also confirmed the development and said Meranda is currently without security detail.
He said the authorities withdrew all police officers and security staff attached to her without giving any reason.
Meanwhile, the security team for the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was reinstalled. His security aides were re-posted on Thursday morning.
This is as political crisis is raging in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Bigwigs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have intervened to resolve the crisis.
Prominent former governors, Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba and Akinwunmi Ambode are involved in the mediation.
Their intervention was directed by President Bola Tinubu after the Governance Advisory Council failed to get a resolution.
A high-powered meeting was held at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina involving Osoba, Ambode, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and all members of the Governance Advisory Council.
The meeting which lasted till about 7pm was to address the growing political tension in the Assembly.
The crisis started on January 13, 2025 when 36 lawmakers kicked out Obasa and installed Meranda as new Speaker.
Over 90 per cent of the lawmakers accused Obasa of poor leadership, lateness, disrespect to colleagues and the executive.
They also listed his alleged abuse of office, intimidation of members, misappropriation of funds as major grievances.
