A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officers in Kano State Command was injured during a fight with two suspects in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident happened on January 20, 2025 at Rahama Roundabout.
The suspects, Musa Usman (25) and Buhari Ya’u Bashir (24) were arrested with drugs.
According to NDLEA Kano Public Relations Officer Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the operation led to the seizure of 1.1kg of cannabis sativa, 8g (38 tablets) of diazepam and 59g (165 tablets) of Exol.
The operation turned violent when Musa Usman who was armed with a dagger resisted arrest and stabbed one of the NDLEA officer.
Despite the attack, the agency was able to arrest both suspects and recovered the drugs.
Reacting to the incident, Kano State NDLEA Commander Abubakar Idris Ahmad described the attack on the officer as unacceptable.
“Attacks on law enforcement officers will not deter us from our mission to rid the society of drugs,” he said.
The suspects are still in NDLEA custody and will be charged for drug related offences and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
This is a reminder of the risks NDLEA officers face as they battle drug trafficking in Nigeria where drug abuse is a social and health problem.
By doing their job, law enforcement agencies like NDLEA are trying to protect the community and public safety despite the dangers.
