Students of Araromi Ilogbo Secondary School in Oko Afo, Lagos, went berserk on Monday, protesting against the death of one of them—an alleged victim of beating to death by one of the teachers—leading to a chaotic situation.
GistRepotters.com gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday when the said teacher, one Oluwale, flogged the victim, identified as David Babadipo, who had been sick for some days.
The 16-year-old was taken to one hospital after the beating where he was pronounced dead.
In a video circulating on social media on Friday, it showed the many students of the school running around inside and outside the school grounds.
According to a voice on the video, the dead student went to buy something when he was flogged by a teacher, which resulted in his death.
As an internet user posting a comment to the video, x user Mama Sassy D said the incident happened in her neck of the woods, and people ‘have started rioting already. The feedback was that the said teacher might not survive this period.’
But a certain Facebook user, Esther Wusu, denied the student expired out of the flogging, and that the teacher’s first name originally was the vice principal of the school.
A post on Esther’s wall read, “First to correct, Mr Oluwale is a Vice Principal and he didn’t beat him for not following instructions in class because he doesn’t teach, he didn’t even beat him at all.
“That child has been sick since Tuesday and the parent didn’t take him to the hospital, it got worse yesterday afternoon after the break and they called his parent to come pick him up.”
As of the time this story went to press, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, could not confirm whether the case was reported to the police.
