Delta State’s Ughelli area has witnessed the arrest of eight individuals believed to be involved in the fatal assault on police officers by Nigeria Police Force.
This is after five individuals were arrested last week in relation to the same incident.
The names of twelve policemen were revealed by the police last Saturday, and it was announced that six had lost their lives while trying to rescue six others who have been missing ever since. On February 23rd, the aforementioned police team Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul and Sergeant Ejemito Friday fell into an ambush in search for a hostage.
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the fallen officers ran into armed attackers on a forest while looking for three kidnapped colleagues. He noted that five suspects had been apprehended earlier relating to deaths of those officers.
As at now, thirteen people are being held as suspects following these latest arrests. In his statement on Saturday, ACP Adejobi explained that ongoing investigation is being assisted by these suspects. The diligent police operatives are given credit for this arrest.
“The arrested suspects are giving information about the investigation. The Force is bent on ensuring that all those involved in this sad case are brought to book without delay,” Adejobi stated.
He assured that as soon as the investigation was concluded, the suspects would be arraigned.
Commiserating with families of the slain officers, Adejobi regretted for the police force. “The Nigeria Police mourns our officers who were murdered while performing their duty of protecting lives and property of people within their jurisdiction.”
Adejobi restated that his team will make sure justice is done concerning these dead officers. “We have a determination that law enforcement agents or any person guilty of this kind should be held liable under every possible circumstance,” he said.
