Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, announced on Sunday that Monday March 11 will be the start of this year’s Ramadan.
According to the Sultan, the announcement was made after the crescent was sighted in most parts of the country on Sunday, 29th Shaban.
This means Ramadan 1445 starts Monday March 11.
He said “We got the information from Muslim leaders across the country and we accept the sighting of the moon.”
The Sultan directed Muslim faithfuls across the country to start fasting on Monday as instructed by Islam. He asked them to use the month to pray for the end of the security challenges in the country.
He also asked Muslims to pray for the leaders to be godly in their responsibilities. He also asked Muslims in Nigeria and abroad to fast with sincerity to God and asked the rich to support the needy with provisions throughout the month.

UAE has also announced Monday as the start of this year’s Ramadan according to WAM, the Emirati national news agency.
In a similar line, Qatar joined other Gulf states to announce Monday as the beginning of Ramadan 1445 AH.
