The Nigeria Police Force, on Saturday, confirmed the deaths of six police officers, and the disappearance of six others in Delta State.
This was disclosed to the public by the Force’s PRO ACP Muyiwa Adejobi through a statement on Saturday.
According to Adejobi, the officers were ambushed while carrying out an investigation to uncover the whereabouts of their colleagues in the state. He added that five individuals have been arrested in connection to the killings.
In a statement, Muyiwa conveyed: “Armed assailants cowardly ambushed these brave officers. They were on a mission to investigate the disappearance of three of their colleagues, and to also rescue them in the Ohoro Forest, Delta State. Meanwhile, six other officers are still missing-in-action.
“We extend our hearts to the families, friends, and colleagues of these officers during this period of profound sorrow. we stand in solidarity with them, and we offer our deepest condolences and earnestly praying for the peaceful repose of the departed souls.”
The names of the slain officers are: Inspectors Abe Olubunmi, and Friday Irorere, as well as, Sergeants Kuden Elisha, Akpan Aniette, Ayere Paul, and Ejemito Friday.
And the names of the officers are: Inspectors Onoja Daniel, Onogho Felix, Emmanuel Okoroafor, and Joel Hamidu, as well as, Sergeants Moses Eduvie, and and Cyril Okorie.
Adejobi also noted that the Nigeria Police Force will honour the fallen officers for their dedication and heroism with a posthumous award at an upcoming ceremony
This incident follows the killings of 17 soldiers who were on a peace keeping mission between two communities in Delta State. The military is yet to apprehend the perpetrators of these acts of terror but had vowed to continue the pursuit until the killers are found.
