Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa, on Sunday found herself at the center of mockery for being unmarried at her age.
A social user took to his X.com account and made jest of her unmarried status at age 39.
The confrontation started after Toke shared her thought on TikTok. She gave her opinion on societal pressure related to single people. She sort of referenced the noise about Davido and Chioma marriage.
Nelson Oluu, a user on the X platform, took the pain to mock her, “You have passed the single era; you are now unmarried.” He used the opportunity to belittle her for being unmarried.
Response: Toke Makinwa
She responded with grace and good positivity. She told Nelson Oluu that he will soon see her transition from being a single lady to becoming a lawfully wedded wife.
“God will do mine and you’ll be alive to congratulate me. Happy Sunday o,” she wrote.
In another post, Toke revealed that she actually got the urge to curse the troll but decided against it. She opted to spread positivity instead and wrote, “If I curse am now, you’ll say I’m mean. Love n light.”
Not Allowing Negativism
The response of Toke Makinwa to this troll exemplifies her strong character toward the pressure-cooker life and unsolicited comments. She chooses to spread love and light instead of trolling one back — the implanted virtue of handling negativity with grace.
The incident talks to the wider social issue: pressures people face from society and the Self on matters of marriage, particularly towards women.
The approach of Toke encourages others to be hopeful and positive despite the societal pressure or any silly criticism.
