Former senator Shehu Sani has lambasted ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai over his recent attack on his successor Uba Sani.
The exchange got heated after El-Rufai accused Uba Sani of being too loyal to President Bola Tinubu, allegedly because Kaduna State got N150 billion from the federal government.
El-Rufai said Uba Sani’s support for the president was tied to the funds, implying it was financially motivated.
But Shehu Sani quickly hit back, saying el-Rufai himself had received huge funds from the World Bank and federal government during his tenure without making it public.
According to Shehu Sani, el-Rufai’s administration got millions of dollars from the World Bank and federal government under former President Muhammadu Buhari. But he didn’t disclose it to the people of Kaduna State.
He believed that if Uba Sani is not telling the people of Kaduna about the N150 billion, he might have learnt that from his predecessor.
Shehu Sani didn’t spare el-Rufai’s integrity. He said if Uba Sani’s support for Tinubu was allegedly financially motivated, then the same can be said about el-Rufai’s support for Buhari in the past. In his usual manner,
Sani joked that el-Rufai was trying to take the moral high ground despite his own history.
“If Uba Sani has refused to tell us about this so-called ‘N150 billion’ then he must have learnt that habit from the former governor,” Sani said. “The ex governor is coming to equity with dirty hands. If Uba Sani is backing Tinubu for money then can we not say that el-Rufai’s loyalty and constant kneeling for Buhari was also for money?”
In summary, Shehu Sani described the situation as a classic case of a seasoned political manipulator being outsmarted by a more skilled player.
“It’s just a case of the legend of betrayal being outsmarted by the grand guru,” he quipped.
The exchange between these political bigwigs reveals the deep divisions and power struggles within Kaduna’s political landscape, and raises questions on transparency, governance and the true reasons behind political alliances.
